learn about our history
The Ridgefield Montessori School (RMS) was established in 1999 with one classroom of 12 students in a primary classroom. We have since grown to include 4 classrooms of 75 students.
Under the administration of Director and owner Catherine Tango-Dykes, RMS offers Toddler, Early Education, and Kindergarten programs for children ages 18 months to 6 years old. Flexible Extended Day and After-Care programs are also available.
RMS bases its educational philosophy on the teachings of educator Dr. Maria Montessori, who believed in integrating a child’s personality and individual thought processes into that child’s curriculum. Montessori believed that educators should “develop interest rather than give facts”, instilling in a child the curiosity necessary to pursue an individualized education.
The Montessori teaching method recognizes an innate ability in children to learn and retain knowledge at a very early age. We enable children to fully develop their individual potential in an environment that encourages independence and creates a joy of learning.
